Tai chi is sometimes known as meditation in motion. This is because tai chi is meant to relax your mind and your body, while focusing on your breathing, just as what is done in meditation. Unlike with meditation, tai chi consists of slow, deliberate movements usually taught to you by an instructor, as in the video above. Nobody quite knows where tai chi came from, although the most popular method is referred to as the Beijing method, consisting of 24 simple moves. these moves, when done correctly over time, can build muscle strength and concentration. Also, tai chi has many psychological benefits, such as reduced amounts of stress, depression, anxiety and mood swings, with an increased amount of self esteem. Many doctors and psychologists recommend tai chi for their patients, especially people suffering from fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, and some pulmonary diseases. Tai chi even helped patients with Parkinson's disease with balance. Tai chi is important to chinese culture because it is very spiritual, using the ancient form of yin-yang and chi, or energy.
